High schools in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District last week were awash with school colors and crowds of friends and family as the graduating class of 2025 walked the stages at their respective campuses, celebrated their achievements, and looked towards the future.
All four comprehensive high schools in the district – San Ramon Valley, Monte Vista, Dougherty Valley, and Cal High – along with Del Amigo Continuation High School and the Venture Independent Study Program held their graduation ceremonies last Friday (June 6) following the final day of classes in the district June 5.
The Class of 2025 is graduating into increasingly uncertain economic, political, and social landscapes worldwide, with the previous school year locally also having been rife with some challenges.
“As the 2024–2025 school year comes to a close, we have the opportunity to reflect on a year defined by perseverance, achievement, and collaboration,” SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said in an end-of-year message June 5. “Together, we have faced challenges with resilience and celebrated successes that remind us why our work matters so deeply.”
Those challenges have included financial woes at the district level that have led to $24 million in budget cuts and a months-long stall in negotiations between district management and its teachers union, with an agreement between the two parties finally secured this week as the district looks toward finalizing its budget for the upcoming school year.
“This year tested us in many ways,” Cammack said. “The emotional weight of budget reductions has been real—and deeply felt. But through it all, one thing has remained constant: our shared commitment to students.”
Cammack emphasized the role of supportive communities throughout the district, who will continue to celebrate and support the graduating class as they depart from the district.
“This week’s graduation ceremonies celebrate not only academic achievement but also the determination, character, and growth of our seniors,” Cammack said. “We are incredibly proud of their journey and excited for the future that lies ahead.”
