Next Sunday thousands are set to descend upon Bishop Ranch in San Ramon to Run for Education.

In its 42nd year, the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s annual fundraiser includes a 10K and 5K Walk/Run that are certified by the USA Track and Field.

To help get runners in the spirit, the Oct. 12 event will also feature music by school bands and motivation from cheer squads, organizers said in a statement announcing this year’s run.

San Ramon’s event is the largest education run in Northern California, with 5,000 runners, volunteers, vendors, and community members expected to be in attendance, according to organizers.

“The SRVEF Run for Education is a tradition that we look forward to every year,” said Danville resident and SRVEF Board Member Lisa Blackwell. “Our kids have participated in it since they were little, and now they bring their kids, making it three generations of us creating memories and coming together as a community while raising much needed funds for our San Ramon Valley Unified schools.”

Organizers said that over the years, proceeds from the run have funded elementary school maker spaces, teacher grants for all grade levels, hands-on science kits, musical instruments, art supplies, science projects, technology and school libraries, among other resources for San Ramon Valley Unified School District campuses.

“We are grateful to SRVEF, our event sponsors, and the many volunteers whose hard work makes this event possible each year,” said SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack.

“The Run for Education continues to directly support our classrooms, teachers, and students with resources that enhance learning and opportunities. It’s always a highlight of the year — a chance to celebrate together, enjoy some fun and friendly competition, and showcase the incredible spirit of our community. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Run — it’s an event you won’t want to miss,” Cammack added.

The schedule for the run is as follows:

  • 10K starts at 8 a.m. at Charlotte Wood Middle School (600 El Capitan Drive, Danville).
  • 5K Walk/Run starts at 8:30 a.m. at 2700 Camino Ramon in San Ramon.
  • Friendship Run for participants with special needs and their supporters begins at 9:45 a.m.
  • Mini Run for participants 2-6 years old starts at 10:15 a.m.
  • The Expo will run from 8 a.m. to noon and will feature a kids’ zone, inflatable games, face painter, photo moments, crafts, exhibitor booths, and other activities.
