The San Ramon City Council is set to hear annual updates from two of the city’s advisory committees at its next regular meeting, which are set to focus on highlights of their work last year and provide an opportunity for council feedback.
Chairs for the Open Space Advisory and Arts Advisory committees are set to provide the annual reports on the committees’ operations and achievements in 2024, as well as their ongoing goals and recommendations to the city, a procedure required for all of the city’s advisory committees.
One major highlight for the Open Space Advisory Committee over the past year is the dozen presentations it hosted within the city as well as with regional groups including Save Mount Diablo, the John Muir Land Trust, and the Tri-Valley Conservancy.
The committee’s objectives over the past year included continuing the development of the city’s urban open space inventory, seeking funding opportunities, working with the city’s Planning Division on the impacts of the current general plan and housing element on open spaces, receiving presentations on wildfire prevention, and aiding in the development of a San Ramon Trails Master Plan.
Looking ahead to the current year, the Open Space Advisory Committee’s goals include continuing much of that work, as well as additional outreach and education efforts such as an Open Space Protection Report and events in partnership with the city’s Parks and Community Services Department.
Over the past year, the Arts Advisory Commission has reviewed and made recommendations for improvements to the city’s current art programs and classes, selected an artist for the Arts and Wind Festival, reviewed gallery exhibit proposals, and sought to have committee members attend at least four arts events each within the city.
In addition to that work, the committee’s goals in the current year include specifically reviewing and making recommendations on programming at the Dougherty Station Community Arts Center, reviewing and making recommendations on art installations in private developments, updating the city’s five-year Cultural Plan, and recommending an artist for the design and installation of a permanent public art exhibit to replace the sign at the Dougherty Station Community Arts Center.
The San Ramon City Council is meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 25). The agenda is available here.
