A Union City woman who allegedly shot a teenager last month in San Ramon was arraigned Wednesday on charges of attempted murder, stalking, child abuse and making criminal threats, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said.
Xiaojie Zhang, 40, entered a plea of not guilty, according to prosecutors.
A 17-year-old boy was shot with a handgun on Nov. 23 in San Ramon on Talavera Drive, according to police. He received a shoulder wound but survived.
Zhang is also charged with alleged stalking.
“Zhang did willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly follow, and did willfully and maliciously harass Confidential Victim, and made credible threat with the intent that he be placed in reasonable fear for his safety and the safety of his immediate family,” reads the court filing.
Police arrested Zhang at her home in Union City on a $1 million warrant on suspicion of attempted homicide. Police have said that Zhang and the victim were known to each other but did not elaborate.
A search of Zhang’s residence allegedly uncovered two guns, according to police.
The charges of attempted murder, stalking, and child abuse come with enhancements for allegedly intentionally discharging a firearm to cause great bodily injury, as well as the use of a firearm in commission or attempted commission of the offense, prosecutors said.
Zhang waived her right to a preliminary hearing within 10 days of being charged, so a date for the hearing has not been set yet, according to the DA’s office. She remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility on a $1,675,000 bond.
