The attention of American youth cricket turns toward the Tri-Valley next week, with 28 teams from across the country set to compete in the annual Thanksgiving weekend tournament.
The eighth National Pleasanton-San Ramon-Dublin Youth Cricket Tournament will see some 450 young players from 15 different cricket clubs participating across under-10, U12, U14 and U16 divisions next Thursday through Sunday.
“Many players who have played in this tournament have gone on to represent the USA National Cricket Team, both men and women,” Rameshu Immadi, co-organizer from Cricket for Cubs, said of the growth and impact of the annual tournament.
Also organized by San Ramon Cricket Association and Dublin Cricket League, the competition is the only cricket tournament in the United States officially hosted by municipal governments — jointly by the city of Pleasanton, city of San Ramon and city of Dublin, along with support from Alameda County, Immadi said. The relocation of a Minor League Cricket franchise, the San Ramon Grizzlies, has also helped strengthen the sport in the Tri-Valley.
The tournament will be contested at Bernal Community Park in Pleasanton, Fallon Sports Park in Dublin, Rancho San Ramon Park and Quail Run Elementary School in San Ramon and Sycamore Valley Park in Danville – along with games in Fremont and Davis.
Games run from next Thursday (Nov. 27) through next Sunday (Nov. 30), with the closing ceremony at 6:30 p.m. the final day at the Stanford Medicine Sports Complex at Bernal in Pleasanton. For the full schedule, go to www.psdyct.org.
