The boys’ teams from Granada and Dublin were the strongest East Bay Athletic League finishers at the CIF State cross country meet run Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The Matadors were ninth in the boys’ Division II race, with the Gaels finishing 11th in the D-I race.
In the D-II race, Jesuit won the team title with an amazing score of 52. Granada was ninth at 237, De La Salle was 13th with 340 points and Amador was 17th at 425.
Individually Cooper Stream of Vacaville was the winner at 14:48.4. The best local finishers were: Heath Salter (29, De La Salle, 15:26.2), Sattvik Raju (37, Amador Valley, 15:31.0), Neil Ajeesh (42, Granada, 15:36.7), Aiden Versteeg (43, Amador, 15:37.2), and Nicolai Barron (44, Granada, 15:37.9).
In the D-I boys, Redondo Union was the team winner with a final score of 101. Dublin finished with 272 points for their 11th. California was 20th at 514.
Individually, Connor Lott of Clovis North had the fastest time overall of the day with a 14:43.2. Daniel Santhiapillai of Dublin finished No. 16 at 15:13.8; Justin Feng of Dublin finished 27th at 15:27.3; and Kai Hamre of California was 75th at 15:33.4.
In the D-I girls’ race, the team winner was Buchanan with a final of 76. Dougherty Valley (21, 537) and California (22, 558) were the EBAL teams in the race.
Jaelyn Williams of Eastlake was the individual winner with a time of 16:28.1. Emily Bellinger of California finished 32nd with a 18:09.8. and Anusha Natraj of Dougherty Valley (96, 19:04.7) was the other top local finisher.
Finally in the D-II girls’ race, Whitney captured the team title with a 136 final score. San Ramon Valley was 18th at 407 points.
Summer Wilson of Irvine was the winner at 16:20.0. Sade Bumpus of Granada was the top individual finisher with a 14th place time of 17:52.6. Other top EBAL finishers were Nadya Makarova (Monte Vista, 27, 18:04.0), Macy Mullins (Foothill, 35, 18:13.4), Kaylie O’Connell (Monte Vista, 49, 18:27.9) and Ava Padilla (Monte Vista, 51, 18:33.8).
NCS football
Monte Vista (No. 2) took advantage of some early-game turnovers and rolled to a 24-10 win over No. 4 Clayton Valley to take the NCS D-II title.
Monte Vista quarterback Ian Ondricek only had to throw four passes on the night, connecting on three for 50 yards. Running back Torin Dunphy also completed a pass, hitting Antony Evans for 20 yards and a score on a halfback option pass. Dunphy also carried 34 times for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Ondricek kept it 15 times, running for 58 yards. Kicker Ben Kerrigan was perfect on all three PATs and added one field goal.
The Mustangs will next play for a CIF D-3 AA NorCal Championship at St. Ignatius on Friday at 7 p.m.
In other title games on Friday night, No. 2 Pittsburg beat No. 3 Cardinal Newman 42-17 to win the D-I title. No. 3 El Cerrito beat No. 5 Ukiah 32-21 to win the D-III title.
