The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is partnering with St. Mary’s College in Moraga for a new teacher residency program that will offer educators-in-training hands-on experience at the district’s schools as they work toward teaching credentials.
The Teachers for Tomorrow Residency program is set to debut in the 2024-25 academic year, with residents serving as apprentices alongside experienced teachers in district classrooms as they complete a complimentary sequence of courses that will lead to a teaching credential at the end of the year-long program.
Residents will receive a $32,500 stipend for tuition and other expenses and $500 in reimbursement of exam fees, along with mentorship from current teachers, priority hiring with the district after completion, and guaranteed substitute work two days per week during the program.
Requirements include interest in working as a special education or STEM teacher, proof of four-year degree completion, and an application for the College Teacher Residency program at St. Mary’s.
An in-person information session on the program is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. on April 25 in Monte Vista High School’s Workday Student Center at 3131 Stone Valley Road in Danville.
