San Ramon Valley High School in Danville is set to be under new leadership at the start of the next academic year, with the school’s current principal announcing this week that she would be departing the role following the end of the spring semester.
Whitney Cottrell’s three-year tenure at the helm of the school is set to come to an end on June 30, according to a message she sent to the school community on Wednesday.
“After three rewarding years of service, I have made the difficult decision to relocate to the North Bay to be closer to loved ones,” Cottrell said. “During my tenure at SRV, I have been deeply inspired by the dedication, passion, and resilience of our staff, students, and families. Your support and collaboration have been invaluable, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to have served as your principal.”
Cottrell added that she would be seeking a smooth transition to the school’s next principal, and that “preparations for the 2024-2025 school year are well underway.”
The district had posted a job ad for Cottrell’s successor as of Thursday afternoon, with an application deadline of May 20 at 4 p.m.
Cottrell was hired as principal at SRVHS following the departure of her predecessor Jason Krolikowski in 2020, who also held the position for approximately three years before leaving for a position with the Palo Alto Unified School District. The position was held on an interim basis by Liz Pagano, assistant principal at Monte Vista High school, prior to Cottrell’s first day on the job in June 2021.
“I want to express my heartfelt thanks once again for welcoming me into the SRV community. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as your principal,” Cottrell said.
