The incumbent currently seated on the SRVUSD Board of Education representing a majority of the Dougherty Valley region in the southeastern portion of San Ramon is seeking reelection this November.

Current board president and Area 3 Trustee Laura Bratt announced Monday that she was officially seeking to remain in the seat for an additional term following the expiration of the current four-year term on the board that she was elected to in 2020.
“I am honored to have served our community over the past four years and am excited to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Board,” Bratt said in her campaign announcement. “Together, we have made significant strides in enhancing the educational experience for all students, but there is still more work to be done and I am committed to this journey of improvement. My re-election will ensure consistency and top-notch governance, allowing our district to continue to thrive.”
Bratt’s campaign priorities include the continued rollout of the district’s strategic directions, expanding opportunities for shared leadership and student success, and contending with current and ongoing financial challenges facing the district and schools across the state.
During the previous election for the seat in 2020, Bratt successfully ran on a platform that she summarized as being guided by “transparency, equity, and compassion” as well as an eye towards balancing the district’s budget.
Prior to her election to the board, Bratt served in a number of volunteer positions as a mother of four SRVUSD students, including the stakeholder committee for the district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan and site council for Iron Horse Middle School.
Highlights of her tenure on the board to date include working on development of the district’s learner profile, navigating the transition back to in-person learning following the shift to remote learning at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the addition of a student board member, and changes in the district’s superintendent and assistant superintendent contracts that curtail costly pay raises previously supported by a “me too” clause in both contracts calling for annual raises at the same rate as those negotiated by unionized employees.
Bratt was selected to serve as board president by her fellow trustees in December 2023.
“The passion I have for education and the student experience coupled with the experience I bring to the seat, give me the tools needed to continue to help lead our district into an even brighter future,” Bratt said in her campaign announcement.
Bratt’s campaign announcement means that both seats on the SRVUSD board that are expiring at the end of 2024 have incumbents running, with Area 2 Trustee Shelley Clark also announcing a bid for reelection last month. The other three trustees – Jesse vanZee, Susanna Ordway and Rachel Hurd – are still in the midst of four-year terms that they were elected to in 2022 and set to expire in 2026.
