The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is in the process of recruiting for its Teachers for Tomorrow Residency Program.

The program, in partnership with Saint Mary’s College, aims to provide an opportunity to earn a teaching credential in special education or STEM while gaining hands-on teaching experience and mentorship from an experienced SRVUSD educator, according to a statement from the district.

“The Teachers for Tomorrow Residency Program is an incredible opportunity for those passionate about making a difference in education, and the stipend helps remove financial barriers to this rewarding profession,” said SRVUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack.

“By combining hands-on classroom experience with the academic excellence of Saint Mary’s College, aspiring teachers will be fully prepared to step into their own SRVUSD classrooms with confidence and skill,” he added.

Some of the skills participants can expect to learn from their mentor teachers in the program are lesson planning, classroom management, and student engagement. Credentialing coursework is done in the evenings at Saint Mary’s beginning in June, according to SRVUSD officials.

“The support from our experienced SRVUSD mentor teachers is invaluable, and we are excited to invest in the next generation of educators who will continue our legacy of excellence in SRVUSD,” said Melanie Jones, the district’s assistant superintendent of human resources.

Additionally, there are program benefits including a stipend to support tuition and living expenses, $500 toward reimbursement of credentialing exam fees and priority consideration for SRVUSD teaching positions upon program completion.

The application window is currently open but closes soon, officials said.
