John Muir outpatient expansion

John Muir Health officials are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the company’s outpatient center in San Ramon and looking ahead to plans for the facility in the years to come.

Having served an average of 10,000 patients per month over the past year, John Muir is seeking to further bolster its presence in the San Ramon Valley with a $500 million expansion tentatively set to open next year.

“Our vision for the San Ramon Outpatient Center has always been to create a highly convenient, comprehensive destination for health care in the San Ramon area,” John Muir Health CEO Mike Thomas said in a press release Thursday. “The strong response from the community over the past year demonstrates the need for expanded access to high-quality outpatient care close to home.”

The expansion is set to accommodate between 25 and 30 new physicians, ranging from primary care practitioners to cardiology, women’s health, urology, and oncology specialists, as well as new imaging and surgery services.

Despite those expanded services on the horizon, a John Muir spokesperson confirmed that the facility will continue to provide outpatient care only.

As it stands, the outpatient center offers primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatric services centered on preventative care, routine wellness visits, and chronic disease management, as well as urgent-care services for non-life-threatening conditions.

Downtown Danville events

The streets of downtown Danville are set to be abuzz with activity this weekend – although closed to traffic in many cases – with a wellness fair, outdoor concert, and car show all on tap.

A portion of Front Street between the Village Theatre parking lot and the library parking lot will be closed from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday as the area comes to life throughout the day with the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Passport to Wellness fair at the Danville Community Center from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed immediately by the kickoff of this year’s Music in the Park series at the Town Green featuring the Bell Brothers.

On Sunday, June 14, several streets in Downtown Danville will be closed for the A Brighter Day Car Show & Shine. Street closures will be in place starting at 6 a.m., and the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All drivers should exercise caution in the Downtown Danville area, as there will be heavier than usual pedestrian traffic.

The action picks back up Sunday with the fourth annual car show from Lafayette-based non-profit A Brighter Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout several blocks in the heart of downtown. Road closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Prospect Avenue between the Clock Tower parking lot entrance and Front Street, on Church Street between the Village Theatre parking lot and Hartz Avenue.

DeSaulnier town halls

Rep. Mark DeSaulnier is ramping up his prolific town hall appearances with two events in the coming weeks, starting with an in-person town hall in Dublin Wednesday evening (June 17) centered on AANHPI history and culture, and followed less than 24 hours later with a virtual America 250 event Thursday afternoon.

The latter is set to feature a discussion with legal scholar, professor, and writer Jeffrey Rosen, “centered on the progress we have made to fulfill our nation’s founding promises as well as the work still ahead to secure liberty and justice for all,” according to an announcement from DeSaulnier’s office.

More information and registration for both events is available here.

Kidchella concerts

The town of Danville and its library are kicking off their Kidchella concert series next week, with the lineup now out for the annual celebration of storytelling and music at the Town Green.

Both events on June 17 and July 22 will kick off with storytime at the Danville Library at 11:15 a.m., followed by live music and arts and crafts throughout the afternoon.

Wednesday’s event will feature music from Purple Fox and the Heebie Jeebies, with The Banana Slug String Band on tap for July 22.
