Last month, Monte Vista High School’s Mixed Choir was one of 14 choirs nationwide participate in the inaugural American Music Performance Invitational. The three day event included adjudicated performances, observational opportunities, clinics and workshops aboard the Queen Mary.

Sixty Monte Vista students were directed by composer and conductor Eric Whitacre to form a 600-plus voice choir to benefit the The Harmony Project.

“Our students have such a deep appreciation for genius composers like Eric Whitacre because Monte Vista Choir Director Bruce Koliha exposes his students to incredible and challenging music,” said Michele Sbrana, the choir’s president and coordinator. “Our students worked hard to prepare for the experience musically and by earning the funds to travel there. They understood what an honor it was…a once in a lifetime experience.”
