After the Pleasanton Weekly shared news last week of editor emeritus Jeb Bing’s death during the holiday season, dozens of readers shared remembrances of our founding editor in comments on social media. Here is a snapshot:
Sad news. He cared so much about people, accurate news, and the well being of Pleasanton. Condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
– Catharine Baker
Jeb will be missed by our Olson family. He was instrumental in getting help here for us after our accident. He reported how and when we needed help from the community. He followed up with an interview a few years later with one of my daughters, Ashley, who is paralyzed and asked how she and the family were doing.
I give him a lot of credit for the wonderful help that we did receive because of his reporting. It is such a loss. Peace be with the family.
– Elaine Olson
Rest in Peace Jeb, give Dolores a hug, what a fantastic team

I am so sorry for his loss. I was the President of the Rotary Club of Pleasanton between 2015-2016. He was in charge of finding speakers for our meetings.
If everyone remembers 2016 was a presidential election and Hillary Clinton was running against Donald Trump. Also the Republican primaries were happening and there were lots of Republican candidates, including Jeb Bush. At one meeting I introduced Jeb as Jeb Bush. I was so embarrassed and I apologized.
For the rest of my presidency, Jeb was referred to as Jeb Bush and I was referred to as President Hillary. He was a great sport, a great leader and great person. I will miss him.
– Janet Bowman Yarbrough

Jeb was so sweet and kind to me, even when I was rocking the boat. He liked to tease me and it took me far too long to understand his dry sense of humor. He and his family were always supportive of downtown businesses and as a previous owner, I deeply appreciated his support.
He was a friend to all of us. Sending the Bing Family lots of love.
– Melanie Sadek

What a great man and such an incredible icon in Pleasanton. I’ll never forget that he gave me my first paid journalism assignment and trusted me with the cover – a profile of another great Pleasanton icon, George Lydiksen.
Jeb was such a class act and a pleasure to work with. One of a kind. Sending my sincere condolences to his family.
