Final Summer Nights of the season
The town of Danville is gearing up for the final events of the year in its outdoor summer entertainment series, with Taylor Swift cover band Dream Like Taylor set to take the stage at the Town Green this weekend, followed by the final Moonlight Movies screening to close out the season next week.
The concert is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Saturday (July 25), with “The Princess Bride” set to conclude the outdoor movie series on July 31. Festivities are set to kick off at 6:30 p.m., with the movie set to start at approximately 8 p.m. or when lighting permits.
At-risk man found
The Danville Police Department was celebrating the successful recovery of a missing man with dementia as of Wednesday evening.
According to a Facebook post from the department, police had recently responded to a missing person report regarding the 82-year-old man after he had been missing for several hours.
“Officers immediately coordinated a search and began working to locate the individual,” DPD said in Wednesday evening’s social media post. “Before additional search resources were fully deployed, a family member shared that they had placed an AirTag in their loved one’s wallet. Using the AirTag’s location, officers quickly responded to the area, located the missing individual, ensured they received a medical evaluation, and safely reunited them with their family.”
The man was not identified publicly in the post, with no further details included on where and when the search was conducted, or how he had gotten lost, but police emphasized that the story could serve as a lesson to the greater community.
“This incident is an important reminder that quickly reporting a missing loved one allows officers to begin searching immediately, and that a simple tracking device could make all the difference,” DPD officials said. “In this case, that small investment may have helped save a life by allowing officers to locate the individual before the situation became much more serious.”
Assessment Appeals Board applications
Contra Costa County is seeking applicants for its Assessment Appeals Board.
“As a board member, you’ll hear and decide property tax assessment appeals, playing an important role in protecting the integrity of the County’s property tax system while serving the community,” county officials said in a press release Thursday.
Applicants are not required to live in the county, but they must have at least five years of professional experience as an attorney, public accountant, property appraiser, or real estate broker, with documentation required as part of the application process.
Anyone who has worked in a county assessor’s office within the past three years is ineligible for the board.
The board generally meets on Thursdays at 9 a.m. other than the first Thursday of each month, and during a recess in May and June. Board members are paid $200 per half-day meeting, $300 per full-day meeting, and $400 for each consecutive meeting day, along with mileage reimbursement.
