Native garden tour

Multiple homes in the Tri-Valley are set to open up their native gardens to the public as part of the more than 70 participants in this year’s Bringing Back the Natives garden tour, marking the 22nd year of the annual event.

Danville resident Maria Sargent is set to showcase the fruits of more than a decade of labor in shifting the garden of the home she grew up in to center on native plant species, several of which are considered “keystone” species such as California lilacs, manzanitas, lupine, sunflowers, and buckwheats.

Sargent’s garden marks the 69th stop out of 72 in this year’s tour throughout the East Bay, with the final stops in gardens at the Livermore homes of Roger and Amy Aines, Maria and David Dawson, and Jennifer Rose Hurley and Dan Gaff.
