9/11 memorial ceremony
The San Ramon Valley Exchange Club is gearing up for its upcoming 9/11 remembrance ceremony marking 25 years since the infamous attacks in 2001.
This year’s event is set to include a keynote speech from retired U.S. Marine Col. Chris Starling, whose 26-year military career included combat tours in the Gulf War and a later deployment in the Iraq War in the years after the 9/11 attacks.
“We are grateful to have Col Starling share his experiences related to the attacks on September 11, 2001 a day in which he was an instructor in the West Point military academy during the nearby attacks on the World Trade Towers and Pentagon,” Exchange Club organizers wrote in a press release last week.
Gold Star mother Roxanne Langevin is also set to provide a speech recognizing her own son and other families who have lost children in the wake of 9/11.
The ceremony is scheduled from 5:15-6 p.m. at Oak Hill Park in Danville, followed by ice cream and the Exchange Club’s annual student essay competition. More information is available at srvexchangeclub.com
Alamo car show
The unincorporated community of Alamo is set to be a regional destination in the coming days, with its annual car show returning next week.
“This end of summer celebration includes the car show (vintage, classic, hot rods, muscle cars, 1980’s or older – and exotic); plus, selected new cars on display,” organizers with the Alamo Improvement Association wrote on their website.
The event is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Alamo Plaza. More information is available here.
Parcel Tax Oversight Committee applications
The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is seeking applicants for its Parcel Tax Oversight Committee in the early months of the 2026-27 school year, with the application deadline on the horizon next week.
“The Parcel Tax Oversight Committee provides oversight for the Board of Education to ensure that the parcel tax funds are spent as intended by the voters,” district officials wrote in an Aug. 14 announcement.
The committee meets at least twice annually and is tasked with providing an annual report to the board on how parcel tax funds have been spent.
The district is set to appoint six regular members and one alternate to two-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms per member.
Members of the committee are required to live within SRVUSD’s boundaries, and to be registered voters.
Six members and one alternate will be appointed by the school board for a two-year term. They will not be compensated and will serve no more than two consecutive terms. Members shall reside within the boundaries of the SRVUSD and shall be registered voters.

Donor Network West 5K
Donor Network West’s annual 5K run and walk is on the horizon next weekend, this time in a new location.
Now in its 16th year, the upcoming event is set for Rancho San Ramon Community Park in the city’s southeastern corner, over the hills and miles away from its previous location in Bishop Ranch.
“The event includes a kids dash, medal ceremony, Zumba, DJ, food trucks, entertainment and Purpose Park, a special space dedicated to honor the lives of donor heroes,” Donor Network West organizers said in a press release Thursday. ” The event will gather more than 500 Run/Walk participants and 36 teams.”
Participants are set to be off to the races starting at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 12. More information is available at donornetworkwest.org.
