Local Author-Palooza
More than a dozen local authors are set to gather at Rakestraw Books in Danville this weekend for the shop’s Local Author-Palooza event, with something on tap for readers of all ages.
The inaugural event celebrating local literature is divided into two parts, with five children’s book authors making appearances during the first half of the day followed by nine authors of adult books.
“Each writer will be introducing his or her book,” organizers wrote on Rakestraw Books’ website. “Then there will be lots of time to buy books, visit and ask questions, and have books signed by the authors.”
Stella Chen Lama, Victoria Siegel, Maria G. Wolk, John Petraglia and Bee Medders make up the lineup for the kids’ stage from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday (Sept. 13) prior to the adult stage starting at 2 p.m.
The afternoon lineup consists of Daniel Ochalek, Sharon Beth, Suzanne Masella, Tess Perko, Gerald Henig, Tony Hicks, Mara Solomon, Manish Maheshwari and Gary Hernbroth.
Hicks, a longtime local journalist and columnist whose stories for the wire service Bay City News often appear on DanvilleSanRamon, is set to discuss his 2025 book “Lying Drunk”, chronicling his battles with addiction and path towards sobriety over the years. “I’ll bring candy,” Hicks said on social media Thursday.

Vasco Road study
The Contra Costa County Public Works Transportation Engineering team recently completed its comprehensive corridor safety and improvements study for a portion of Vasco Road located between Marsh Creek Road, Highway 4 and the southern boundary of Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
The study, which incorporated input from Vasco Road users and community members that the county has gathered, identifies and looks to address safety, traffic, roadway infrastructure and environmental concerns.
Now, the county is once again asking the public to review the Vasco Road Corridor Safety Improvement Study Final Report and provide any additional feedback by Tuesday (Sept. 15).
