State of the School District

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District and the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation are gearing up for this year’s State of the School District event on Oct. 28.

“The State of the School District is an opportunity to come together as a community, reflect on our progress, celebrate the achievements of our students and staff, and look ahead to what’s next for SRVUSD,” said Superintendent CJ Cammack. “The partnership and support of our families, community organizations, elected officials and local businesses play an important role in our district, and I look forward to sharing an update on the work underway to support our students and schools.”

The event is set for 8:15 a.m. Oct. 28 in the Village Theatre at 233 Front St. in Danville. Register here.

‘Art in the Dark’

Organizers with the Village Theatre and Art Gallery are preparing to debut the town of Danville’s fall art exhibit, with the opening reception for “Art in the Dark” set for this weekend.

“As summer fades and darkness becomes a greater part of each day, the Village Theatre Art Gallery will explore the creative possibilities that emerge when light and shadow meet,” organizers wrote on the town’s website.

The reception is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, with the exhibit on display through Dec. 18.

Unity Day

The town of Danville will host Unity Day on Oct. 21, an event that seeks to “send a visible message of kindness, acceptance and inclusion to prevent bullying.”

Community members are encouraged to mark Unity Day by wearing orange and joining local officials at the Town Green from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Winter storm prep

Danville, San Ramon and the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District are partnering to clear downed trees and debris from creeks, inspect and clean storm drains and provide sandbags at distribution sites throughout the valley in the coming weeks. The work comes amid an emergency declaration from Gov. Gavin Newsom ahead of a winter that federal forecasters say has more than a 90% chance of bringing a very strong El Niño.

Sandbag stations are set to be rolled out on Nov. 2, or sooner if a storm comes to pass in the coming weeks, with San Ramon set to begin seasonal street sweeping on that date.

Officials are asking residents to report clogged storm drains, sign up for emergency notification systems and prepare their property ahead of time by clearing gutters, checking for potential roof leaks, securing outdoor items and directing water drainage away from buildings.

SRVFPD is hosting Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) classes on Oct. 22, Nov. 18 and Dec. 22. Register here.

Public Law Library board openings

Contra Costa officials are seeking to fill a vacancy on the county’s Public Law Library board of trustees.

Residents who are active members of the California State Bar with an interest in public policy and library administration are encouraged to apply for a one-year term on the library’s governing body, with applications due by Nov. 6. Interviews are scheduled for Nov. 23 via Zoom.

Applications are available from the board of supervisors clerk at 925-655-2000.
