There will be a book signing with Capt. “Sully” Sullenberger at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, at Rakestraw Books, 522 Hartz Ave., Danville. Visit www.rakestrawbooks.com for more information.

The whole thing took 20 minutes. Co-pilot takes off, crashes into and kills a bunch bird’s, the Captain looks up from what he was doing at the time, takes over and lands in the water. Captain writes a book about what ever and milks the entertainment system. Shame on all of you.
So, Julia, sounds like you will avoid the festivities.
I think I’ll pass on the book myself as it is just not in my range of interest, but I don’t have the strong reaction you do (shame on all of who, I wonder?). Based on the reaction of other pilots and the reports of similar instances where things didn’t go so well, it may have been a more difficult maneuver than you have characterized.
I think it is great that Rakestraw offers a variety of books and signers. It gives us each ample opportunity to take an informed approach regarding what we will or will not attend. I’ll skip this one, but I’ll bet there are plenty of others who are of a different mindset that will attend and will enjoy their evening. Very cool!
The owner of Rakestraw books was gruff and verged on beligerant, explaining that 1)tickets were required and 2)you had to buy the book at Rakestraw that night to get tickets. For the folks who showed up not knowing that tickets were required we got a verbal spanking for our ignorance without any hint of apology. We were told that “crowd control” was necessary and the fact that tickets were not mentioned in the Danville Weekly was “not my problem.”
In my opinion, the response by the gentelmen who, I believe, was the owner of Rakestraw, was the antithesis of customer service. I encourage him to take a class in customer resource management and sales techniques and I encourage my fellow Danville residents to buy their books at Amazon or Borders and bypass Rakestraw on their way through Danville.
Sounds like Julia needs some help. Is she jelous or is there another problem. All she does is squak about everything. I have never read a positive comment from her. Perhaps she is bedridden and mad at the world. Give credit where credit is due!
Thanks Greg for the perspective on Julia- obviously, she has a very negative slant on the world. It’s so irrational, that I feel sorry for her- Her negativity in no way should take away from Sully’s heroism. I’m glad he decided to write a book, and hope he does well with it!
Give credit where credit is due…That’s right Greg, that’s exactly what I do when it’s warranted and there hasn’t been much out there lately. I give you credit for reading all my comments.
Diane, oh yes, I will pass on buying a book about the trials and tribulations of a pilot landing in the water and what ever else the book is cluttered with…
By the way…I do believe Captain Sully is a great pilot. But as I have said many times before…enough is enough is enough. Just because he landed safely in the water, no one died, a few got some wet feet, but it all turned out okay, so take your pat on the back and go on with life. I just wonder how many of you worshipers of the Captain have ever experienced trying to land at the Ontario Airport with 60 mph cross winds, believe me that’s scary and very dangerous when the pilot is trying to put that aircraft down gently on solid concrete and the winds are so strong that he has to power the aircraft onto the concrete runway. They do it and they do it well. But I guess if one should fail and hit the ground to hard, blow a few tires and maybe slide a little, but land safely…he/she should write a book about how wonderful he/she is…
Again…The Captain is just milking the entertainment system. I wonder why the co-pilot isn’t writing a book, he’s the one that hit the birds, when the Captain wasn’t watching.
Also, By the way Greg, did you mean jealous (your spelling jelous)as in wish I could fly an aircraft or write a book…would be surprised with my accomplishments…but I didn’t write about them…I just did them.
Julia………I think you probably like to read about all the killing in the world and all the BAD that happens. The best part about the Sully ordeal is that it was the FIRST GOOD NEWS we have heard on the news in a long time, and him being from DANVILLE makes me feel PROUD. Have you ever felt proud before?
Make sure you check out all my spelling Julia…..I know you have all the time to waste!
Michael is very rude, I agree.
Greg…I think the Captain Sully story is great. Pilot lands disabled aircraft in Hudson River…all passenger’s survive. Yes, I think it’s a wonderful story. But Greg…even though you express being so proud that he happens to live in your backyard (Danville)…don’t you think enough is enough? My God, visits the President, visits the Super Bowl, and on and on…writes a book about I guess how he landed the aircraft saves all those lives and a bunch of non related issues about the Captain, his wonderful life in the air and in Danville. Next, comes the movie, and all the drama. Greg, you probably enjoy reading “Alice in Wonderland”. I did, when my children were 6 years old. Bottom-line, Captain Sully is being over exposed just like the salesman in D.C.
Hey Greg, do you know who Betty is talking about…I didn’t a Michael in any of the posted messages.
Julia, I think Betty is referring to the owner of Rakestraw – see the comment by Joe above.
Thank you Diane…It’s a pleasure hearing from you…Julia
Costco Danville is also hosting a book signing tomorrow (Sat), not sure of the times…
I’ve heard from several people that Rakestraw is NOT the place to go for civility and polite interaction. I like to buy locally, but not when I’m treated poorly.
Amazon is cheaper and don’t forget to check eBay, also (I have no affiliation with either).
For whatever reason my daughter likes Rakestraw. Probably because mom and dad pay the bills. I always try to support the locals so I stopped by to the new location looking for a recent bestseller. They did not have the book but would order it at full price. I explained to the guy that he does not have to be the low price leader, but a little break on the price would sell a book. Would not budge. Look for the new location to be a Halloween store. Fool..
