San Ramon Valley elementary school students are being asked to put their artistic skills on display while learning about traffic safety as part of the region’s 11th annual Street Smarts Storybook Poster Contest.

Now through Feb. 4, local students in kindergarten through fifth grade can take part by submitting their illustrations about this year’s traffic safety storybook, “The Amazing Abracadabra Bus Adventure,” written by San Ramon author Dana Mentink.

The story is about students who go on a magical bus ride in San Francisco where they practice crossing the street safely and being smart bus riders, according to contest organizers.

At the end of the contest, 11 of the entries will be chosen to be included in the final storybook, which will be given to thousands of children across the San Ramon Valley.

The winners and final storybook will be revealed at an awards ceremony on March 11 at the Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center in San Ramon. All artwork submitted will also be exhibited during the event.

Entry forms and contest information are available at each San Ramon Valley public elementary school as well as at the Danville Community Center, Danville Library, San Ramon Library, San Ramon Community Center and Dougherty Station Library.

The 11th annual San Ramon Valley Street Smarts Storybook Poster Contest is sponsored by Sunset Development Co.

Street Smarts, a traffic safety education program, is a partnership between the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, the city of San Ramon, the town of Danville, Contra Costa County, the San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs and community members.
