The Museum of the San Ramon Valley celebrates three decades in the community with the opening of a new small exhibit that depicts the history and evolution of the local museum.

“The Museum at 30, Celebrating Three Decades of Service” is open now through Nov. 8 and features historic quilts, photographs, documents, a video of the Southern Pacific Depot move, and historical artifacts from the museum archives.

On the second Sunday of each month — while the exhibit is open — visitors can share their own memories of life in the San Ramon Valley beginning July 12 and continuing Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Oct. 11 and closing out on Nov. 8, according to museum reps.

There will also be a suggestion box available for residents to provide input for the future of the museum, located at 205 Railroad Ave. in Danville.

The museum was originally started in 1985 by the San Ramon Valley Historical Society, and for the past 30 years, museum members have worked to promote knowledge about the history and culture of the San Ramon Valley, which includes Danville, San Ramon, Alamo, Diablo and Blackhawk.

The Southern Pacific Depot has been home to the museum’s exhibits since the building’s restoration in 1999. Prior to the depot remodel, exhibits were placed at the Danville Fine Arts Gallery in the Village Theatre and displays were featured in the San Ramon Library.

While “The Museum at 30, Celebrating Three Decades of Service” is on display, the Model Trains, Journey Stories and Indian Life exhibits will be featured in the freight room, museum reps said.
