Danville’s Village Theatre & Art Gallery is set to host a new exhibit, “Art Tag = Inspire,” in which female artists stepped out of their traditional comfort zones to create fresh and unique artworks.

Leisel Whitlock, exhibitions chair for the Northern California Women’s Caucus for Art, curated the showing, which includes photographs, paintings, collage and sculpture.

The exhibit, which runs through June 18, features 17 artists from the caucus who will showcase their collaborative and independent artwork at Danville’s art gallery.

The type of art that will be featured is called art tag, which is “an exercise of a Tag and Response method in which the women step out of their normal comfort zone of familiar methods of creation to employ new methods and techniques in their practice,” Marija Bleier, the town’s visual arts coordinator, said in a statement.

She continued in stating the tag exercise “culminates in a variety of presentations reflecting each artist’s unique expression.”

Admission to the art gallery on Front Street is free, though donations are accepted.
