Bay Area female a cappella vocal ensemble Harmon Fusion, which draws members from the Tri-Valley, is hosting a special open rehearsal guest night for prospective singers throughout the region later this month.

While each of its Monday evening rehearsals in Hayward are open to guests, the Sept. 23 session will present an opportunity for newcomers to show their stuff and sing barbershop-style — including up “on the risers to experience the joy of ‘ringing chords’ together” — with the rest of award-winning group, according to organizers.

“If you have a good ear for music, we want you,” Harmony Fusion membership chair Joanne Morrison, a Livermore resident, said in a press release. “We’re looking for women who love to sing and are interested in performing, chorus competitions and improving their vocal skills.”

“We welcome all singers with or without choral experience to the guest night to find out if Harmony Fusion is a good fit for them. We are eager to share the sisterhood of a cappella with our guests. The ability to read music is not required,” Morrison added.

A chapter of Sweet Adelines International, Harmony Fusion has been performing out of the East Bay for more than 50 years and has been directed by Barbara Vander Putten since 2007. “Music education in Barbershop singing is the mission of Sweet Adelines, but the organization also provides opportunities to sing in other styles,” she noted.

The interactive open rehearsal night is set for 7-9:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Hill and Valley Women’s Club at 1808 B St. in Hayward. Learn more at harmonyfusion.org.
