Exploring interests as a kid or teenager — and beyond — is the inspiration behind the new student artwork adorning an exterior wall at the Dublin Unified School District boardroom.

Dublin High School junior Emaan Qayyum’s “From Doodles to Diplomas” was the art selected for the 2024-25 contest among DUSD secondary school students, succeeding the inaugural work from the prior academic year.

“I wanted to display the diversity in Dublin Unified by choosing something that defines where we all start, a kindergarten cubby, symbolizing how hobbies and interests shape each of us and make our community diverse,” Qayyum said in a statement released by the district.

Qayyum was honored by the DUSD Board of Trustees during a ceremony at its March 25 regular meeting inside the Larkdale Avenue building where her artwork hangs.

“Art education is a vital part of a well-rounded academic experience, fostering creativity, self-expression and critical thinking skills that benefit students throughout their lives,” DUSD Superintendent Chris Funk said in the district’s press release. “This installation is a testament to the power of student creativity and the importance of providing opportunities for young artists to share their vision with the community. We congratulate Emaan on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to showcasing her work for the next year.”
