Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Next weekend is the time. Vine Cinema & Alehouse is the place. The audience is the motion.

Valley Concert Chorale has picked for this year’s summer sing-along movie event the 1978 musical classic “Grease”, starring John Travolta and the late Olivia Newton-John.

The Tri-Valley vocal group will urge attendees to get into the groove as the familiar tunes play throughout the film, including the title track “Grease”, “You’re the One That I Want”, “Sandy” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You”, which was nominated for an Academy Award that year.

Dressing like Danny, Sandy or other T-Birds or Pink Ladies – or characters like Cha Cha, Principal McGee, Coach Calhoun or even Eugene – will be encouraged too.

“We are excited to again partner with Vine Cinema & Alehouse for this movie sing-along,” said Sarah Allendorf, VCC board president. “Last year’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ event was so fun that we wanted to do it again. This time we are adding a costume contest for anyone dressed in 1950s outfits.”

“Grease: A Movie Sing-along and ’50s Costume Contest” is set for 10 a.m. next Saturday (Aug. 23) at Vine Cinema, 1722 First St. in downtown Livermore. With seating limited, general admission is $15, seniors $10 and students $5. For tickets and more information, go to valleyconcertchorale.org.
