Pleasanton-based TEAM Theatre is sending its student performers deeper into the high school world with its production of “Mean Girls” this month.
Adapted from the Broadway musical inspired by the 2004 movie, “Mean Girls High School Edition” follows Cady Heron navigating the social hierarchy of suburban high school as a newcomer to campus, including her run-ins with “The Plastics” clique led by Regina George. The TEAM Theatre version, directed and choreographed by Amanda Boyan, stars young actors from Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon and beyond.
“For many of these performers, this production represents more than just a show — it’s a chance to develop confidence, collaboration skills, and a sense of belonging through the arts,” producer Salim Razawi told the Pleasanton Weekly.
“With musical theatre opportunities often dominating the landscape, this production also offers a unique space for young actors to focus on performance, storytelling and character work in a contemporary piece that resonates with their lived experiences,” Razawi added.
Presented in partnership with the city of San Ramon, “Mean Girls” is set for a two-weekend run at the Front Row Theater inside the Dougherty Station Community Center in San Ramon. With opening night next Friday (May 15) at 7 p.m., there are six shows scheduled through May 24.
