Child Abuse Prevention Day
The Exchange Club of the San Ramon Valley is set to hold its annual “Child Abuse Prevention Day” Resource Fair on Saturday (April 26) from 10 a.m. to noon.
This year, the annual event will take place on the North Patio at Lunardi’s Market located at 345 Railroad Ave. in Danville, organizers said.
“The National Exchange Club holds events like this throughout the year, designed to keep our kids safe. We are proud to once again offer this event, in partnership with Danville Police Department and the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, to the community at-large,” said Tim White, president of the Exchange Club of the San Ramon Valley.
The event features safety resources for parents and includes two petty zoos for kids – the Little Explorers and Jungle James zoos, which have become a community favorite, according to event organizers. The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District will have personnel and their fire truck on site.

‘Bohème Out of the Box’ at City Center
San Francisco Opera’s “Bohème Out of the Box” is heading to City Center Bishop Ranch on May 1, bringing composer Giacomo Puccini’s beloved “La Bohème“ from the stage to the heart of San Ramon.
The free, one-hour production starring guest artists and San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellows will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Set on a mobile opera stage, the performance reimagines a timeless story of love, loss and passion through soaring arias and sweeping romance, providing a unique, up-close experience.
Sung in Italian with live English translations accessible via smartphone, it offers a fresh and engaging way to experience this iconic work.
Families with young children can arrive early for a First Act Workshop at noon, where kids can explore the story, move to the music and bring a favorite stuffed animal to dance along to Musetta’s Waltz. Organizers said that audiences will be able to relax on the shaded lawn or grab a seat in Alexander Square (outside chairs not permitted).

The Romantics at the fair
Detroit rock band The Romantics, best known for their hits including “What I Like About You” in the late 1970s and early 1980s, have been revealed as the final act booked to fill out the bill for the 2025 Big O Tires Concert Series at the Alameda County Fair.
Fair officials were forced to regroup in recent weeks after the original group scheduled for the June 15 concert, The Gap Band, canceled their tour. Enter The Romantics, whose other memorable songs include “Talking In Your Sleep”, “One in a Million” and “Rock You Up”.
Tickets for The Romantics went on sale this week. For information on that show and the rest of the concerts, visit annual.alamedacountyfair.com. The fair arrives in Pleasanton on June 13 and will be open Wednesdays through Fridays until July 6, with a concert every night except Independence Day.
County seeks applicants for Measure X Oversight Committee
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is seeking individuals interested in serving on the Measure X Community Fiscal Oversight Committee. The committee is responsible for reviewing and confirming Measure X revenues and expenditures, including: overseeing annual financial audits conducted by an external auditor; verifying conformance with the Measure’s language and intent and with the Board’s direction for specific allocations; and producing an associated annual report.
The committee does not make any funding recommendations.
The committee is composed of five seats, one from each district. There are currently two vacant seats: one in District 3 and one in District 5. Appointments align with the term of office from their appointing district supervisor, county officials said in an announcement.
No appointee may be a current member of the Measure X Community Advisory Board, a county employee, related to or associated with a Measure X grantee, or an elected official. The committee meets two to three times annually.
Officials said the ideal candidates will be civic-minded, interested in volunteering for public service, and have experience with and knowledge of auditing principles, financial management best practices, financial reporting, and government administration.
Applications can be submitted online. The recruitment will be open until all of the seats are filled. For more information, contact Jessica Shepard, Deputy County Administrator, at (925) 655-2049 or Jessica.Shepard@cao.cccounty.us.
