An elderly woman was taken to the hospital after being struck by an SUV while trying to cross the street in Alamo on Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.

The situation unfolded just after 8 a.m. in a neighborhood west of Danville Boulevard, according to CHP-Contra Costa Officer Daniel Gilmore. A woman in her 50s was driving a GMC Acadia on Camille Avenue near the Iron Horse Regional Trail crossing when she attempted to make a left turn onto Camille Court but hit a pedestrian walking in the street.

The pedestrian, described as an elderly woman, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital to treat abrasions and complaints of pain, according to Gilmore. The driver, who was not publicly identified, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
