Newly revamped, The Syndicate opened late last month after shedding its former identity as The Last Word in January.

Still located downtown Livermore at 2470 First St. Ste 100, the remodeled lounge is inspired by 1930s speakeasies with its amber lighting, a black and red color palette and velvety wallpaper.
Open to the public as of Feb. 22, The Syndicate serves cocktails, referred to by mafia-inspired names like Al Capone. Though a lasting item from The Last Word is the fan-favorite lobster roll.
“It was time to give it a refresh,” manager Pierson McLean said after about seven years of operations as The Last Word under the McLean family.
“We wanted to rebrand — give Livermore a new loungey cocktail bar, McLean said, “Somewhere for them to come relax, grab a drink and enjoy our atmosphere.”
Though the kitchen and bar manager who worked at The Last Word continue in their roles, The Syndicate offers new cocktails like Bonnie & Clyde, which includes lavender and pineapple-infused pisco with lime, passion fruit and a hot white chocolate cream on top. There are also options for non-alcoholic drinks.
Off-menu, the establishment offers over 400 spirits at its full bar, McLean said.
The Syndicate also offers “elevated sandwiches” and intends to expand their food menu in the near future.
While a historic speakeasy may have been quite private, McLean said, “We’re not that secret, but give that speakeasy feel, that kind of close-knit, bonded community in a cocktail bar.”
