The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to continue discussions and consider taking a vote on redevelopment plans for the former Chevron Park site that is now being eyed as a future residential and retail neighborhood that would expand housing, recreational, and retail opportunities in the Bishop Ranch neighborhood.

The ambitious Orchards project would see the demolition of the office space that previously housed Chevron’s headquarters at 6001 Bollinger Canyon Road in favor of up to 2,510 homes across multiple new neighborhoods and at least 125,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.

The project has been in the works since Chevron’s departure from the 92-acre site in 2022, first relocating their headquarters to a smaller office space in Bishop Ranch, then shifting its homebase to Texas in 2024 while continuing to chip away at its San Ramon workforce.

The proposed project was the subject of multiple public study sessions with the city and other outreach efforts by Sunset Development company – which purchased the site back from Chevron in 2022 – and considered as part of the city’s General Plan update in 2023.

But it wasn’t until last year that formal development plans, filed in late 2024, were deemed complete by the city, and that the preliminary housing development application was filed.

The upcoming planning commission meeting will be the third public hearing on the preliminary housing development application, with city staff recommending that commissioners take a vote on approving it following the discussion.

The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 3). The agenda is available here.
