The Pleasanton City Council plans to tap retired Danville town manager Joe Calabrigo to serve as interim city manager while council members engage in a search for the city’s next permanent leader.

The news was publicly revealed Friday afternoon when a proposed contract with Calabrigo – which would pay $25,000 per month, with no employment benefits, until the permanent city manager assumes the role – was added to the agenda for the regular council meeting on Election Night.

The council has held multiple closed-session meetings this month to decide who would lead the City Manager’s Office after Gerry Beaudin steps down from Pleasanton next Friday (June 5) to become Alameda’s new city manager.

The answer ultimately landed with Calabrigo, a familiar presence in the Tri-Valley for decades. He retired last June after working as town manager in Danville for 32 years.

Pleasanton council members are scheduled to vote on a three-page employment agreement with Calabrigo as part of the consent agenda for their meeting next Tuesday (June 2) at 7 p.m. The contract calls for Calabrigo to start the job June 8.
