‘The Totalitarians’ opening
Newly minted Danville theater company Sixth Line Studios is set to debut their first production this weekend, with opening night of “The Totalitarians” scheduled for Saturday evening kicking off a four-weekend run.
The 2016 play is described as a dark political satire, marking Sixth Line Studios introduction as a new kid on the block for the San Ramon Valley theater scene aiming to offer contemporary, professional level productions akin to more metropolitan Bay Area communities.
“The Totalitarians” is set to run Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Front Row Theatre at 17011 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon from Saturday (March 2) through March 24.

Tina Turner tribute
Renowned Tina Turner impersonator and tribute artist Cookie Watkins is coming to San Ramon this weekend to bring local audiences the opportunity to enjoy her show “Tina: A Tribute to the Queen of Rock and Roll.”
Watkins is set to take to the stage at the Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center at 10550 Albion Rd. at 8 p.m. Saturday (March 2). Tickets and more information are available here.
StreetSmarts contest
The deadline was recently extended for this year’s StreetSmarts video contest for sixth through 12th grade students to submit their video works aimed at showcasing their creativity and educating the community about traffic safety issues.
The deadline is now 4 p.m. on Wednesday (March 6). More information and submission requirements are available here.
E-40 at Alameda County Fair
For the second summer in a row, Bay Area rap legend E-40 is set to headline the Big O Tires Concert Series at the Alameda County Fair, officials revealed this week.
E-40’s concert on June 20 was among several acts tease-released by fair officials on Wednesday morning, with plans to announce the full lineup in installments over the next two months.
The fair in Pleasanton is also set to welcome singer-songwriter and Country Music Award winner Hunter Hayes on July 5. High-energy cover party band Fast Times, whose setlist runs the gamut from pop hits to rock classics, will follow on the fairgrounds stage on July 6.
Pine Valley Middle School award
San Ramon’s Pine Valley Middle School was recognized as one of the top in the state according to an announcement this week from the California Department of Education naming this year’s California Distinguished School Awards.
“I commend the students and staff at Pine Valley Middle School for this achievement that reflects exceptional student performance,” SRVUSD Superintendent John Malloy said in an announcement on March 1. “All of our school communities work together to build positive school climates where students can succeed and thrive, and it is great to see Pine Valley’s exemplary work reaffirmed with this honor.”
The award aims to recognize schools throughout the state for exemplary teaching, learning and collaboration practices and school climate efforts according to the announcement from SRVUSD. Pine Valley was among 293 secondary schools in the state to earn the recognition in this year’s awards.
“This year’s California Distinguished Schools celebration provides us with an opportunity to recognize the hard work of our secondary educators and school staff who help our young adults discover passions and access college- and career-ready experiences that will propel them through life, ” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond on March 1.
