Ganesh festival
San Ramon was home to the Bay Area’s largest celebration of the Hindu deity Ganesha last month, with more than 20,000 attendees gathering for the Ganesh festival at City Center Bishop Ranch.
Among those gathered for the celebration on Aug. 30 were numerous local officials, including San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong and Vice Mayor Sridhar Verose, SRVUSD trustee Susanna Ordway, and Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu.
“This was more than a festival; it was a cultural movement of unity, devotion, and pride,” said event organizers in a press release Aug. 31. “The overwhelming turnout demonstrates how deeply our heritage resonates in the Bay Area and strengthens our mission to preserve and pass on these traditions to future generations.”
The day-long event was hosted by Bolly 92.3 FM and Namaste Bay Area, with organizers emphasizing cultural importance as one of the region’s largest multicultural gatherings and religious significance.
Fire safety town hall
Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) is set to turn his attention to fire safety as the main topic of his next town hall discussion.
“As California fire seasons have become increasingly extreme over the years, they have devastated too many communities across the state,” DeSaulnier wrote in a Sept. 5 announcement.
DeSaulnier is set to be joined by Con Fire Chief Lewis Broschard and Moraga-Orinda Fire Chief Jeff Isaacs, who will discuss local efforts to mitigate the risk of fires.
The event is set for Saturday (Sept. 13) at 11 a.m. in Moraga. Registration and more information is available here.
Community Impact Fund meetings
District 2 Supervisor Candace Andersen is hosting a series of discussions aimed at garnering input from residents and community members on how the county government should spend the one-time $1 million Community Impact Fund that is dedicated to Andersen’s district.
The first of the three community meetings was in Walnut Creek this week, with the second set for Monday (Sept. 15) at 420 Front St. in Danville. Andersen will come to Lafayette the following week for a third meeting in the Veterans Hall at 3780 Mount Diablo Blvd. More information is available here.
Annual Hootenanny
A recently implemented tradition at Forest Home Farms Historic Park is returning this year, with its annual Hootenanny now in its fourth year.
Sponsored by the San Ramon Chamber of Commerce, the event is set to take the place of its regular Third Thursday mixer
The festivities are set to kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 18). Tickets and more information are available here.
Urban limit line study
The public review period is now underway for a study on potential changes to the urban limit line as part of the county’s land use plan Envision Contra Costa.
The study is part of an ongoing series of preparations by the Board of Supervisors for a proposed ballot measure next year that would renew the county’s urban limit line. The board is set to cast a final vote in the coming months on whether or not to place the draft measure on next year’s ballot.
The urban limit line study and additional information are available here.
