Diablo Road Trail project

The town celebrated the start of construction on an extension of the Diablo Road Trail that is set to connect pedestrians and cyclists to other nearby trails, marking the culmination of a 30-year-plus vision for Danville.

The new Diablo Road Trail stretch will extend the existing half-mile Diablo Road Trail by 0.9 miles and connect it with the Barbara Hale Trail and the new 0.7 mile trail that was part of the Magee Preserve development.

“Over 36 years ago, we were standing here, envisioning this trail,” Danville Mayor Renee Morgan said Thursday. “Over the years, local leaders, residents, and partner organizations have worked together to turn that early idea into today’s reality. This trail represents connection, access, and preservation – values that define the Danville community and our County.”

The first phase of construction will consist of removing the old fencing in the area and installing construction fencing, with work on the project set to continue through the end of next year. Workers are set to take a pause from next month through March in order to avoid the rainy season.

Blue Ribbon award for Los Cerros

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is celebrating Danville’s Los Cerros Middle School being named as 31 throughout the state to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon school by the U.S. Department of Education.

Principal Andy Briggs expressed his pride in the Los Cerros staff and students, noting the school’s strong culture of support and achievement. “This award represents the hard work, passion, and care that our teachers and students bring to learning each day,” Briggs said in a press release from the district Oct. 24.

“At Los Cerros, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels seen, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. This recognition is a testament to that shared commitment,” Briggs added.

This year marks the first time since 2022 that an SRVUSD school has made the selective list. Los Cerros was the only Tri-Valley school to be named this year.

“This recognition is a reflection of the dedication, collaboration, and excellence that define Los Cerros and our entire SRVUSD community,” Superintendent CJ Cammack said in the district’s press release. “Our students, educators, and families work together every day to create schools where all learners can thrive, and we are so proud to see that commitment honored at the state level.”
