A 35-year-old Concord man was taken into custody Sunday by officers from the Danville Police Department and four bicycles that were reportedly stolen from a Danville garage last week were recovered.
The suspect was arrested on counts of grand theft and other unidentified charges and is being held on no bail, according to an announcement from DPD on social media Wednesday, which also sought to encourage residents to report thefts regardless of the value of the property in question and highlight the department’s commitment to investigating all crimes.
“Many people believe the police have a financial criterion when deciding whether to investigate a reported crime,” DPD Chief Allan Shields said in the announcement. “In Danville, we strive to solve every crime with reasonable leads, knowing that a solved crime is the best prevention of future crime.”
The thefts from a communal garage in an apartment building on Diablo Road were reported to Danville police on Friday, with the use of surveillance video footage from the building, automated license plate reader (ALPR) information, and consultation with neighboring law enforcement agencies resulting in the identification and arrest in Concord on Sunday (July 28).
“We are grateful to work in a community where everyone values public safety, reports crime promptly, and provides video evidence of the crime,” Shields said. “This allows our hardworking and skilled officers to make excellent use of technology and their relationships with law enforcement partners throughout the county to bring a quick resolution to these cases and prevent future thefts.”
According to records from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is set for a court hearing on Aug. 14 at 8:30 a.m. in county court.
