Preparations are underway for this year’s Mayor’s Installation and Community Awards ceremony in Danville, with the Town Council set to continue discussions on the annual event this week.

During a study session Tuesday, councilmembers are set to decide on three recommendations for the Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award to forward to the Shimansky family.

The award is named after the longtime Danville councilmember who served for 20 years in the position before his death from bacterial meningitis in 2009.

At the time of his death, Shimansky was the town’s longest-serving councilmember. That title is now held by Vice Mayor Newell Arnerich, who was first elected in 1995.

The Town Council is set to select recipients for the other awards at the ceremony next month, ahead of the event on Dec. 2, which will also see rotations for mayor and vice mayor.

The Danville Town Council is set to meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 14). The agenda is available here.
