Danville’s current vice mayor is seeking to defend his seat on the Town Council in this year’s general election, looking toward a fifth term after more than 15 years at the dais as the race takes shape for the two at-large seats up for the ballot this year.
Robert Storer enthusiastically confirmed the news Tuesday, noting that “we still have a lot to do” after his decades as a town official.
“As a current council member and having served nine years on the planning commission, I am proud of what we have created in our community while maintaining our small-town charm and outstanding quality of life,” Storer said. “I look forward to continuing with the same enthusiasm and passion.”
Danville’s high marks for public safety and for being what Storer and his colleagues on the council have often referred to as “one of the best run cities in California” are set to be front and center of the incumbent’s reelection campaign.
“As my top priority, I will always give our law enforcement the tools to be successful to protect our community,” Storer said. “We will always be mindful of our fiscal responsibility to balance our budgets. We do not spend more than we make, as we understand the importance of saving for a rainy day.”
Storer’s experience with the town goes back even further than his tenure on the planning commission and town council, having moved to Danville in 1989 with his wife Sandra and raising two sons, who are now in their 30s.
“Danville is a very special place to live, work and raise our families,” Storer said. “This council understands the importance and expectations from our residents to keep our streets in good shape, keep our parks healthy. We will always preserve and protect our 43% open space by not building on our hillsides.”
Other priorities for the town, Storer said, continue to be support for schools, downtown businesses, the veteran community, and the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Their success will always strengthen our entire community,” Storer said.
As the longtime incumbent, Storer’s platform also centers on his 26 years of experience between the council and the Planning Commission, and the insights gained from that tenure.
“These leadership roles have provided me with a strong foundation in fiscal responsibility and thoughtful planning,” Storer said. “Together, we have carefully managed Danville’s resources, helping maintain a community with no debt, no unfunded liabilities, and no post-retirement obligations.”
As of this week, Storer and former San Ramon police chief Denton Carlson, a Danville resident, are the only candidates to declare for the two at-large seats. With longtime Councilmember Karen Stepper not seeking reelection, the candidacy nomination period will extend beyond the initial deadline of next Friday (Aug. 7) to Aug. 12.
