Families, students, city leaders and organizations are gearing up for the annual Dublin Pride Week, a celebration of community spirit coinciding with Earth Day.

From this Saturday to the next (April 20-27), residents of all ages are invited to join in a series of events and activities aimed at making a positive impact on the city and the planet.

“As Dublin residents come together to participate in Pride Week activities they demonstrate their pride in their community and their dedication to making a positive impact on the environment,” Dublin city spokesperson Shari Jackman said.

“By fostering a culture of volunteerism and environmental stewardship, Dublin Pride Week serves as a shining example of collective action for the greater good,” Jackman added.

At the heart of Dublin Pride Week is the Volunteer Day, scheduled for Saturday (April 20) at Emerald Glen Park from 8 a.m. to noon.

Hundreds of volunteers will participate in beautification projects at the park and throughout the city. From cleaning up parks and trails to planting trees, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved in giving back to their community.

While all ages are welcome, Dublin city staff said safety regulations stipulate that those under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Additional events will be held at Emerald Glen Park this Saturday.

From 8 a.m. to noon, Amador Valley Industries will hold a compost giveaway while supplies last. Residents of Dublin will be able to take home one free bag of compost material. The giveaway will be a drive-thru event in the Emerald Glen Park parking lot off of Gleason Drive.

Another highlight is the Lawn to Garden Party, a collaboration between the city and Zone 7 Water Agency. This event offers participants the chance to transform parts of Emerald Glen Park into low-water gardens.

Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in lawn removal, sheet mulching, and the conversion of sprinkler systems to more efficient drip irrigation.

With guidance from staff, participants will learn about water conservation techniques and available rebates, empowering them to make sustainable choices in their own homes.

Residents can also participate in a Prescription Drug Take-Back/Document Shredding/E-Waste Collection Event at Dublin Civic Center, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hosted by the Dublin Police Services, the event is meant to promote safe disposal of medications and electronic waste.

City of Dublin staff say only prescription pills, tablets, capsules and other solid drugs will be accepted, liquid prescriptions will not be eligible for disposal. DPS will offer an e-waste collection service and a document shredding truck at the event.

Throughout the week residents can engage with a number of city-sponsored activities.

Dublin partnered with the Children’s Emergency Food Bank to host a week-long supply drive. Donation drop off locations will be available throughout the city at various locations including the Dublin Library, Civic Center, Shannon Community Center and The Wave.

New to this year’s festivities is the Care Package Supply Drive, organized in partnership with CityServe of the Tri-Valley. Donation receptacles located at city facilities will provide an opportunity for residents to support those in need by contributing essential supplies.

The sites include the Dublin Library, Civic Center, Shannon Community Center and The Wave.

The Plogging Challenge offers a way to combine fitness with environmental action. To “plog” participants jog or walk while picking up trash along the way, raising awareness about stormwater pollution and contributing to a cleaner environment.

Dublin Pride Week culminates with the Household Hazardous Waste Collection event on April 27, offering residents the chance to dispose of hazardous materials safely and responsibly. Currently, the event registration is at capacity.
