Razi Hasni, business owner and board member of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, is running for City Council in District 3.
Following on an unsuccessful bid for Dublin City Council in 2020, Hasni returns with current campaign prioritizes economic development and support for schools, public safety, parks, trails and roadways.
“From a young age, my parents instilled in me the belief that hard work, guided by heart, is essential for leading a healthy, happy, and purposeful life,” he wrote on his website. “Their dedication to improving the lives of others has inspired my every step.”
Hasni is competing against John Morada to represent a portion of southeast Dublin. The mayor position and an open seat in District 1, representing western Dublin, will also be filled this election season.
Hasni has been a small business owner since 2014, when he and his wife founded Joya Yoga in Livermore. He said he hopes to serve Dublin with the accounting, financial and return on investment analysis skills he has learned in this role.
He has also served as a board member of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce for three years. During one of these years, he chaired the board, which he said expanded his understanding of the business community’s needs.
“As a Councilmember I will be well positioned to serve a vital bridging role between the city of Dublin and our small business community,” he wrote on his website.
Hasni explained that his business experience will be useful in manifesting the Downtown Dublin Specific Plan, which city officials hope will create a pedestrian-friendly center for shopping, dining, working and living.
As for the Dublin Boulevard extension to Livermore, he plans on “fostering a welcoming environment for new business growth on the proposed extension, while also ensuring we preserve open space,” according to his website.
In addition to supporting economic development in Dublin, he also plans to champion its parks and trails.
“Our district boasts incredible spaces like Fallon Sports Park, Emerald Glen, The Wave, and a network of stunning trails and bikeways,” he wrote on his website. “I am committed to tirelessly supporting these open spaces and developing more opportunities to bring the community together in them.”
In terms of funding, Hasni said he supports Dublin Police Services, Alameda County Fire and the city’s public works department for roadway and bike lane upkeep. He also pledges to continue working with Dublin Unified School District, given his involvement on the DHS Athletic Booster Club board.
Hasni has received endorsements from Dublin Mayor Michael McCorriston, Dublin City Councilmember Janine Thalblum, Alameda County Firefighters Local 55 Union, and former Dublin mayors Alameda County District 1 Supervisor David Haubert, BART District 5 Board Director Melissa Hernandez and Chabot-Las Positas Community College District Board President Tim Sbranti.
