With a new partnership, Las Positas College has taken a significant stride toward enhancing educational pathways for students seeking to continue their education at a four-year university.

The Livermore community college announced the signing of a memorandum of Understanding with the University of California Merced, cementing their commitment to facilitating seamless transitions for students.

The MOU between LPC and UC Merced symbolizes a landmark moment for both institutions. Through this collaborative agreement, both colleges pledge to prioritize the smooth progression of students from LPC to UC Merced, ensuring they receive the support and resources necessary to excel in their academic endeavors.

“This MOU signifies our shared commitment to student success and academic excellence,” Las Positas President Dyrell Foster said in a statement.

“By working closely with UC Merced we can provide our students with expanded opportunities for higher education and empower them to pursue and achieve their educational and career goals,” Foster added.

Highlighting the significance of this partnership, LPC representatives emphasized the institutions’ shared status as Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). This alignment underscores their dedication to providing inclusive educational opportunities for diverse student bodies.

By joining forces, LPC and UC Merced aim to bridge educational gaps and promote positive academic outcomes for all students, regardless of their background or circumstances, representatives said.

Chancellor of UC Merced, Juan Sánchez Muñoz, also shared reflections on the new academic collaboration in the statement.

“At UC Merced we believe in the transformative power of education,” Muñoz said. “Through our partnership with Las Positas College, we’re expanding access to opportunities and nurturing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.”

LPC, recognized as the No. 2 best community college in California and No. 4 in the nation by Niche, offers a plethora of resources, academic programs and transfer options.
