The SRVUSD Board of Education is set to review standardized test scores throughout the district at its regular meeting tonight as part of a presentation on the deep learning and innovation portion of the district’s strategic directions.
The latest round of test scores from the 2024-25 academic year were a somewhat mixed bag overall as schools and students continued working to recover from the academic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlights of the most recent results pointed to in the board report and presentation prepared for Tuesday’s meeting include a 3% increase in English and language arts scores for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CASPP) evaluation for third, eighth and 11th grades, with math scores up by 2% compared with the previous year. There was also positive news for more advanced grades, with 92% of students scoring a three or higher on the AP exams compared with 89% the previous year.
However, not all standardized test results were pointing in the right direction compared with last year’s scores. SAT scores were down by 41 points to an average of 1279 compared with last year, continuing to decline from a five-year high of 1377 in the 2022-23 school year. Meanwhile, ACT scores continued to hold steady at an average of 29, marking a two-point increase since the 2018-19 academic year.
There were more positive signs for younger learners evaluated by the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) evaluation for kindergarten through second grade, with kindergarten and first grade scores soaring by more than 10% each compared with the previous year, and second grade scores increasing by 5%.
In addition to reviewing the results, the board is set to hear about next steps in the district’s strategic directions pathways that are aimed at improving academic outcomes.
The SRVUSD board is set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 14). The agenda is available here.
