The Livermore Civic Center Library is hosting an exhibit this month to spotlight the city’s adult literacy program and those who have benefited over the years.
“Our Livermore Stories” sees writings lining the corridor wall by adult learners showing off the skills they’ve honed at the library’s English conversation groups and/or in meetings with volunteer tutors – a special display that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Livermore Public Library’s literacy program, as well as the 150th anniversary of Livermore’s incorporation as a city.

“Each author determinedly models the practice of lifelong learning and represents the thousands of adult learners served by the Library’s Literacy Program through the years,” library officials said in a press release ahead of the exhibit’s opening at the beginning of January.
“These writings also recognize the supportive and dedicated literacy volunteers, past and present, who often share how life-enriching it is meeting with adult learners,” they added. “It’s amazing what happens when our Livermore community comes together through literacy – there is so much to celebrate!”
Attendees can add their own stories by writing a message about why Livermore is special to them on the notepaper provided. The exhibit remains open through Jan. 31 at the main library at 1188 S. Livermore Ave.
