A goal for the board to consider a final candidate at their June 16 meeting was announced Friday morning via email to the district community by Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Board President Steven Drouin.

The target comes a week in advance of the tentative schedule proposed by search facilitator Alameda County Office of Education in which topics and dates were “subject to change” as of the board’s March 24 regular meeting.

In addition to the board’s unanimous acceptance of ACOE’s proposal over those by two private search firms, they opted to form an ad hoc committee composed of Drouin and Trustee Christiaan VandenHeuvel to work with the agency and district staff in the search.

The search process, “officially” beginning in mid-April, involves defining the board and district’s priorities for its next leader, gathering community input and recruitment, Drouin explained.

In the meantime, “Acting Superintendent Michelle Pechette will continue her excellent leadership of the district,” Drouin said. Pechette replaced Torie Gibson Feb. 10 after the former superintendent left the district four days prior by mutual separation.

“We are fortunate for her willingness to remain at the helm through the end of the school year, which allows the Board to focus time and energy on identifying a strong and qualified candidate to serve as our district’s superintendent,” Drouin said of Pechette.

The board initially considered hiring an interim superintendent during the recruitment process for a permanent leader; however, the board is not exploring that idea further at this time.

Ahead of the board’s decision June 16, there will be feedback sessions for staff, a survey for the community and an in-person forum to solicit stakeholders’ input on the traits and experiences they value in the next superintendent, Drouin said.

“In the coming weeks, additional messages and a dedicated webpage will provide more specific information on the timeline along with ways you can engage in this process,” he added.
