Dublin’s newest public school opened with the start of the school year – and Shamrock Hills TK-8 School is already making its mark on the community in the central part of the city, according to its principal.
Currently educating just over 800 students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade (the expansion into seventh and eighth grades will follow in the next two years), the $102.5 million Shamrock Hills campus is located at 5500 Horizon Pkwy. in an area of Dublin that continues to see residential growth.
“Shamrock Hills has become an important part of our community, giving families in one of Dublin’s fastest-growing neighborhoods a school that’s truly their own — right nearby and meant for students from TK through eighth grade,” principal Erin Magill told the Pleasanton Weekly.
“These first few weeks have been a joy to witness, as our new school community has started to take shape,” added Magill, a Tri-Valley native herself. “Students are getting comfortable in their classrooms, our staff is forming meaningful connections with both students and families, and there’s a genuine feeling of pride and excitement about being part of something new.
“We’re not just opening a school — we’re beginning new traditions, shaping a culture, and creating a community that will help define Shamrock Hills for years to come,” she said.
Designed to accommodate up to 1,052 students, Shamrock Hills features 18 classrooms for middle school in its Building A that also includes administrative offices, a wellness center, library and staff work areas. Building B for the elementary kids includes 20 standard-sized classrooms and seven classrooms for TK and kindergarten.
The multipurpose room, Building C, includes a band room and platform stage with storage space, plus kitchen, serving room and outdoor covered dining area. Building D is the gymnasium that features seven-tier bleachers with 364 seats.
The project was funded primarily through Dublin Unified School District’s Measure J bond and state Proposition 51. Planning and design began four years ago, with construction getting underway in October 2024. Magill, who was raised in Pleasanton and worked in the San Ramon Valley and Dublin school districts, was hired as inaugural principal in spring 2025.
“The vision for Shamrock Hills began more than 10 years ago, when leaders from the City of Dublin and the school district recognized the need for a school in this growing area and worked together to secure the land to make it possible,” DUSD Board of Trustees President Kristin Speck said during the Aug. 1 ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“The school board is deeply grateful for the city’s partnership and for the Dublin community’s continued support of local schools. With voters’ approval of Measure J in 2020, we secured the funding needed to build Shamrock Hills,” Speck said. “We are excited to open a TK-8 school in the heart of our city, expanding educational opportunities for Dublin families and investing in the future of our community.”

“The opening of Shamrock Hills TK-8 School represents an important investment in our community,” DUSD Superintendent Matt Campbell told the Weekly. “It expands our capacity to serve our youngest learners while advancing our long-term commitment to providing high-quality neighborhood schools that allow students and families to learn, grow, and thrive close to home.”
