Fire crews with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District fought a two-alarm house fire in Walnut Creek on Tuesday afternoon that injured one person and killed two dogs.
The call came in at 3:39 p.m. reporting a fire in a single-family residence in the 700 block of Woodwind Place in Walnut Creek, according to Con Fire.
Crews arrived to find visible flames and smoke and eventually a second alarm was called on the blaze. The fire was knocked down by 4:30 p.m., but as of 5:30 p.m., firefighters were still at the scene handling hot spots and other issues, Con Fire said.
One person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to Con Fire, but it is unclear if they were a resident of the home or a neighbor. Two dogs perished in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
