Hope Hospice is preparing for one of its largest fundraisers of the year, the Hope 100 Golf Marathon on the lower Valley Course at The Club at Castlewood next month.
The event challenges participants to play 100 holes of golf in one day, putting themselves or their teams up to a physical test while raising money and awareness for the Tri-Valley hospice organization. A shorter skills competition that debuted last year is returning in 2025 as an alternative for those who want to support the cause but commit less time.
“You are golfing for a cause you believe in,” organizers said on the event webpage. “The net proceeds from this event will help Hope Hospice provide the compassionate, high-quality care necessary for hundreds of patients and their families throughout the year.”
Individuals or teams in the marathon, who pledge to raise a minimum of $2,500 each, will play in twosomes at a pace of about 18 holes per two hours from sunrise to the 5 p.m. cutoff. Three meals, beverage and mandatory cart rental are included in the registration.
The skills challenge, at $500 for singles or $2,000 for foursomes, will offer 10 golf skill trials with prizes and bragging rights up for grabs.
“Your support makes it possible for Hope to respond to the growing and diverse needs in our community and help families to safely care at home for their loved one who is at the end of life,” organizers said. “Hope brings expert nursing care, home health aide services, and support by medical social workers, chaplains, volunteers and others to compassionately deliver the help families need.”
The Hope 100 was founded in 2015 to memorialize late Castlewood golf pro Piper Wagner. The associated Steve Thompson Skills Challenge was created in 2024 to honor the late local businessman who played in the inaugural golf marathon.
