The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to hear a legislative update from city staff on new state housing laws that went into effect at the start of the year and their implications locally as the city proceeds with implementing its latest Housing Element as part of the new General Plan.

The presentation will provide an overview of significant laws which fall into eight major categories, according to a staff report prepared by Senior Planner Cindy Yee for the upcoming meeting.

The new laws up for discussion in this week’s meeting can be categorized under streamlining, CEQA, density, land use and planning, accessory dwelling units, enforcement, anti-displacement and affordable housing, financing and costs, and parking, according to Yee’s staff report.

The upcoming discussion is planned to be informational only, with commissioners set to provide feedback on the presentation to city staff but no vote or other actions on the agenda so far.

The legislative update is the only major item on the agenda for the next Planning Commission meeting besides routine items on the consent calendar. These consist of approving new Transportation Advisory Committee appointments, an annual report on the city’s General Plan, and a biennial report on the city’s Climate Action Plan.

The San Ramon Planning Commission is set to meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (March 19). The agenda is available here.
