I-680 SB closure is on

The closure of southbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton and Sunol is on as scheduled for this weekend given the current weather forecast, according to Caltrans.

To facilitate major and efficient repavement work, Caltrans is shutting down the southbound side of the freeway from the I-580/I-680 connector in Dublin and Pleasanton down to Koopman Road in Sunol from 9 p.m. Friday (April 26) until 4 a.m. Monday (April 29).

Detours will be set up to divert traffic accordingly, according to Caltrans, which notes that I-680 northbound, I-580 and Highway 84 will remain open in full. Access to southbound Foothill Road and Pleasanton Sunol Road will also be restricted.

This is expected to be the final weekend-long closure of southbound I-680 through the specific area after multiple prior ones. Caltrans said weekend lane closures on southbound I-680 in the San Ramon area are on tap for May, but they will not result in a full shutdown of the freeway. Learn more at dot.ca.gov.

Danville social host ordinance

The Danville Police Department issued a reminder this week about the town’s Social Host Ordinance, which aims to prevent underage drinking, ahead of graduation season.

“The Social Host Ordinance is in place to deter underage drinking and substance use, which can lead to dangerous and life-altering consequences,” DPD officials said on Facebook Wednesday. “By enforcing this ordinance, we hope to create a safer environment for our children and prevent tragedies such as alcohol poisoning, accidents, and other health risks associated with underage substance use.”

Penalties for violating the ordinance include up to $1000 fines, with minors who are found in violation facing a fine or the police department’s Juvenile Diversion program.

Prescription drug take-back

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has announced drop-off spots throughout the county for this year’s Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, including sites in the San Ramon Valley.

The program is orchestrated by the sheriff’s department in concert with the DEA, aimed at providing a safe and anonymous opportunity to dispose of unused prescription drugs and at keeping the substances out of the wrong hands.

Locally, drop-off sites will operate at the sheriff’s office’s Valley Station at 150 Alamo Plaza and at the Danville Police Department at 500 La Gonda Way from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

More information on the event and on prescription drug safety is available at dea.gov/takebackday.

New bus route

The City of San Ramon has announced a new Wheels bus route that runs from the San Ramon Senior City to both the Dublin/Pleasanton and West Dublin Pleasanton BART stations.

The new 4 East Dublin Route is now in service, running from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

In addition to connecting with both BART stations, the route is designed for interagency transfers to Wheels routes 3 – which provides service to Stoneridge Mall – and 14, which provides service to San Francisco Premium Outlets.
