The new Danville Post Office by Trader Joe’s on Railroad Avenue is up and running.
The facility, located at Danville Square, officially opened its doors late February, said Danville Postmaster Cathy Ott. It has doubled from its original size of around 1,400 square feet to 3,000 square feet, and has also increased the number of post office boxes for rent.
Additionally, it has expanded other products to customers such as shrink wrappers, Ott said.
“We are very pleased with the final building in what we can offer our customers,” Ott said. “It’s a very nice increase in square footage to better suit our customers.”
“The employees are very happy, too, with the new space,” she added.
The post office was part of the construction of two new buildings in Danville Square on the north end of Railroad last year. These new facilities at the back of the center are part of the town’s plan to redevelop Danville Square.
The Danville Redevelopment Agency and Danville property owner Marilyn Dreyfuss have been working together to make major improvements on the site.
The construction was part of the third phase of the square’s redevelopment plan. The first phase involved bringing in new retail outlets such as Trader Joe’s. The second phase included building new store spaces near the intersection of Love Lane and Railroad.
Currently, Starbucks Coffee, Intero Real Estate Services do business in those spaces.
“It was good timing,” Ott said, in regards to having the Danville Post Office be part of square’s renovation.
