Chainsaw sculptor Glen Sievert turns a dying oak into a work of art in Alamo, at a private residence near Las Trampas Center.
The 44-year-old-artist, whose famous carved bears can be spotted everywhere from the Iron Horse Trail up into Blackhawk, said, “In Danville, everybody goes, ‘You’re the bear guy!'”
His pieces range from $300 into the thousands and he’ll create raccoons, bears, squirrels, eagles and any other animals people request, as long as he’s capable. He doesn’t map out his work, but sculpts as he goes, using the natural curves and knots of the tree for guidance.
“I don’t have a plan. I freehand everything. And no, I don’t mess up,” he said.
Most of his commissioners find out through word-of-mouth, but call (707) 354-0729 or visit www.chainsawsculping.com to contact him directly.
